Signs of Evil Eye and Jealousy

Nazar and hasad are real in Islam, and the Prophet ﷺ taught specific protections against them. They are also, in practice, the two things most often blamed for ordinary hardship — and the two most often exploited by frauds. Both facts matter, so this article covers what the Sunnah establishes, what the reported signs are, and how to tell nazar from an ordinary difficult season.

What the Sunnah establishes

The evil eye is affirmed in authentic narrations, and the Prophet ﷺ both warned of it and taught remedies for it. Hasad — envy, the wish that another lose what they have — is condemned in the Quran, and the two final surahs of the Quran (al-Falaq and an-Nas) are explicitly refuge from harm of this kind.

Two things follow. Nazar is not superstition, and protection from it is normal Islamic practice, not a specialist service. Most of what you need is available to you tonight without paying anyone.

Signs people commonly report

These are reported patterns, not diagnostic proof. Read them as questions, not verdicts:

  • Sudden decline after something good was noticed or praised — a marriage, a business, a new home, a child.
  • Heaviness, fatigue or low mood without medical explanation, often worse at home.
  • Repeated small losses: things breaking, money leaking, plans failing at the final step.
  • Tension arriving in a household that was settled, with no traceable cause.
  • Yawning, tightness in the chest or heaviness during Quran recitation, reported by many people.

Now the other half, which honest practitioners insist on: overwork, anaemia, thyroid problems, depression, debt, a bad business decision and a difficult family member produce the same list. Rule out the medical and the obvious first. Anyone who skips that step is not being careful with you.

Hasad is not always a stranger. In most cases people describe, the envy is close — family, in-laws, a colleague, a neighbour. This is uncomfortable but it is also why the Sunnah emphasises not displaying blessings unnecessarily.

The Sunnah remedy — what to do yourself

  • Recite the mu’awwidhat — Surah al-Fatihah, al-Ikhlas, al-Falaq and an-Nas — morning and evening, with intention.
  • Ayat al-Kursi after each salah and before sleep.
  • The morning and evening adhkar taught in the Sunnah, including the dua of protection from every harm.
  • Blow recitation over water and over the household, as narrated, and give it to the affected person to drink.
  • Say masha’Allah and tabarakallah when praising, and teach the family to do it — nazar often travels through admiration.
  • Do not display. Keep good news, income, and family matters within the circle that needs to know.
  • Sadaqah. Quiet, regular giving, which the Prophet ﷺ connected to the removal of affliction.

Nothing above requires a practitioner, a taweez, or a payment. If a household does these consistently for forty days and the pattern lifts, that was your answer.

What to refuse

Practices that are not Islamic circulate under Islamic names. Refuse anything involving: naming a person to be harmed in return, materials buried, burned or hidden in someone’s home, unintelligible writings that are not Quranic, payment demanded in exchange for a guaranteed result, or a diagnosis given confidently before any details are known.

Also refuse fear as a sales technique. A practitioner whose first message is that your family is under attack and only immediate payment will help is describing their business model, not your home. Our article on telling a real amil from a fraud lists the checks in full.

When rohani help is appropriate

Seek it when the pattern is persistent, the medical explanations are exhausted, and the shape is unusual — repeated collapse at the same final step, a household that turned hostile without cause, illness that follows a person only at home. In those cases istikhara identifies where the obstruction sits, and permissible Quranic wazifa is given for it. Where the cause is ordinary, you will be told that, because being told the truth is the only useful outcome of a consultation. See our family problem solution page for how this is handled.

Summary

  • Nazar and hasad are real; not every hardship is nazar.
  • The Sunnah protections are free, effective and yours to use daily.
  • Rule out the medical and obvious first, and refuse anything that harms another person.
